105 East E Street - The first Methodist Church in McCook was erected in 1884, in the vicinity of the present day Central Elementary. The second church was built in 1905 on the current site. On February 5, 1927, lumberman A. Barnett, known as "McCook's Builder," made an invitation to the church trustees. His proposition to the board was to tear down the existing church and construct a new church building. This house of worship was built on the present site. "I have this proposition to make you in regard to a new church," Mr. Barnett wrote. "If you wish to consider a new church building and will tear down the present building and remove all the material from the ground, I will erect a church on the site to cost no less than $35,000 with a pipe organ to cost no less than $5,000. The only condition that I would require in making this offer is that I would be allowed to put on the corner stone in the most prominent place this inscription. 'Erected in 1927 in memory of my mother whose memory to me is a prayer'." The proposition was thankfully accepted.
