Sehnert's Bakery and Bieroc Cafe

312 Norris Ave. - The buildings at 310 and 312 Norris Avenue have seen many businesses over the years. The south side held a grocery story owned by Ray Search and his father, a deli and photography studio, a gun shop and beauty parlor, while the north side was an automotive supply shop, cafe and finally an optical store. Today, those locations are home to Sehnert’s Bakery and Bieroc Cafe, which was started in McCook in 1957 by Walt and Jean Sehnert one block south. In 1981, Sehnert’s Bakery to its current location at 312 Norris. 

In 1990, Matt and Shelly Sehnert bought the family bakery from Walt and Jean and added catering services and a wholesale pizza crust company to help grow the business throughout Southwest Nebraska. In 1999, the Bieroc Cafe opened next to the bakery with the site continuing to be a social gathering place, much like the Modrell's Cafe which once called the site home in the 1960s. 

In 2019, Sehnert’s Bakery and Bieroc Café received the James Beard Foundation's America's Classic Award, becoming Nebraska’s only James Beard Award winner.
