7th Annual Big Give McCook is Thursday, Nov. 3

After a year of preparation, Big Give McCook 2022 is nearly here. Starting Thursday, Nov. 3 at midnight, the first online donations can be accepted at biggivemccook.org. That is also the first “power hour” of the day with a $1,000 in random donations to be matched.

Additional power hours will be held throughout the day at the in-person giving stations located throughout McCook. The first in-person station opens at 8 a.m. at First Central Bank with the final station at the YMCA closing at 8 p.m.

A full listing of giving station location, hours and power hours is available on the Big Give website. A complete list of all the non-profits included in the Big Give and their upcoming projects is also provided on the website. Donation forms are available on the website to print off and take to giving stations or they will be available at each location.

Some of non-profit organizations involved in the Big Give are planning activities to highlight what they do in the community, including the McCook Arts Council (MAC).

MAC will again be hosting a student art show this year as part of Big Give McCook. The show takes place at 416 Norris (former Curves building) next to the Fox Theater from 5- 8 p.m. The public may come and go throughout the evening. Drinks and cookies will be provided by the McCook Arts Council and Big Give McCook donation envelopes will be readily available to make donations.

In addition to the student artwork on display throughout the building, the 2022 show will include musical performances inside and outside on the sidewalk. The musical lineup is as follows:

5 p.m.: McCook High School drum line

5:30-6:45 p.m.: St. Patrick Elementary performances every 15 minutes

7-7:45 p.m.: Central Starz performances every 15 minutes

Now in its 7th year, Big Give McCook benefits 34 non-profit organizations in McCook and throughout Southwest Nebraska. Generous sponsors provide additional funds to match funds given by individual donors to the organizations.

To kick off the new year, Jo Beebe has been selected as the January 2026 McCook Volunteer of the month. While many people might know Jo for her years at the Sports Shoppe, she can be found giving hours of her time to the community, especially at St. Patrick Church. Whether during the weekly Mass or for a funeral or wedding, Jo shares her beautiful voice from the choir loft, as well as leading the choir members. Jo, along with her husband Harold, also has served as the St. Pat’s GALA host couple in the past and continues to help with set-up and cleanup of the annual event. Jo is also active with the Fall Festival, the Rosary Rally and the Wild Game Feed in Curtis every year. She attends every the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults class and helps students prepare for confirmation. And since retiring from the Sports Shoppe, she is active in the Altar Society, and volunteers at the Bargain Bazaar thrift store. According to her nomination, “The way Jo gives of her time and talents to our parish and community is a reflection of her faith,” and the community and the church are better because of her generosity. The McCook Philanthropy Council selects the monthly recipient for the McCook Volunteer of the Month award as part of the McCook Community Foundation Fund’s McCook Volunteer program. If there is a volunteer in the community who should be recognized, please contact the McCook Chamber of Commerce at 308.340.3200 or visit McCook Volunteers on the MCFF website, mccookfoundation.org to complete a nomination form. The only requirement is that the nominee must be a resident of McCook or Red Willow County. Please have information about the nominee along with where and how they volunteer in the community.
